13 Principles to Manifesting Money – Principle 4
Specialized Knowledge – “Personal Experiences or Observations” ~ Napoleon Hill
Principle 4 – Specialized Knowledge
Most people know and believe that ‘Knowledge is Power!’ But it is just potential power – it becomes Power only through organization into definite plans and directed to a specific outcome.
There are two kinds of Knowledge – general and specialized.
- General – is useless in accumulating money, regardless of the type or quantity of knowledge. Many university professors have great amounts of knowledge – little money.
- Specialized – is the knowledge specific to your purpose in life or the goal toward which you’re working and to the service, product or profession offered in return for money.
All knowledge is available to you, as long as you know how and where to get it and your desire is great enough. If you need a lot more knowledge than you desire to learn, you can bridge that gap through a “Master Mind” group.
Although the accumulation of riches requires power and power is achieved through highly organized and intelligently directed ‘Specialized Knowledge,’ it’s not necessary to actually possess the knowledge yourself before gathering your fortune. Your ability to organize and direct a “Master Mind” group having the ‘Specialized Knowledge’ needed to continue taking action on your plan is a key ingredient. Then you must be able to organize and use your ‘Specialized Knowledge’, as it is acquired, for a definite purpose and with a practical plan of action!
Successful people never stop ‘learning’, but they first decide on the purpose for acquiring ‘Specialized Knowledge,’ figure out how this knowledge relates to and is necessary to their purpose or business, and determine if they are required to possess the knowledge or if it can be accessed elsewhere – perhaps through their “Master Mind.” Successful people don’t waste time and energy accumulating information just to have it – it must be pertinent to their service or product offer, essential to taking action on their plan, or required that they possess it.
With the growth of the internet, there are vast quantities of information and knowledge free for the taking. The odd thing about us humans is they only value what they must pay for. Students who pay their own college tuition tend to apply themselves with greater vigor and effort than students having no financial investment…or ‘skin in the game.’ In addition, students paying their own way, for years after graduating often continue adding to their ‘Specialized Knowledge’ – gaining even more than they’ve paid for in the forms of self-discipline, time management, organizational skills, financial responsibility and completing what they start. Having the ambition to give up personal time to acquire ‘Specialized Knowledge’ increases their value to employers, who realize there is no remedy for lack of ambition.
In his book Hill provides many specific stories emphasizing these concepts, putting them into an understandable form. As you read each example, you’ll see the common thread – Imagination. ‘Specialized Knowledge’ is useless if you don’t put it to work with an idea created through imagination for something needed and highly sought after by many…though they may not yet know they ‘need’ it!
Hill also makes an argument for not starting at the bottom. Starting work in a higher position by providing greater value, saves time in working your way up the ladder, so you advance more quickly. He also points out that those beginning at the bottom are never sure they will get the opportunity to stand out above the crowd and move up, get discouraged, lose ambition, and end up in a “rut – the strong habit of a comfortable daily routine.”
In this sections Hill emphasizes several important points, namely:
- We can control the conditions which enable us to move up and increase our success if we have ‘Desire’!
- Both success and failure are the result of habit!
- Business associations are vital, for both failure and success!
- If you ‘Desire’ greater success, have imagination backed by ‘Specialized Knowledge’ and form an organized PLAN to accumulate wealth, you can create ideas and opportunities for your Self that are in great demand and make you money!
Just remember, the ‘idea’ is the main thing…‘Specialized Knowledge’ can easily be gained later!
