Bonus Principle 14 to Manifesting Money! – 6 Ghosts of FEAR-Part II
“Take inventory of Yourself, as you read this closing chapter, and find out how many of the “Ghosts“ are standing in Your way” – Napoleon Hill
Foreword…This is Part II of the final chapter in Hill’s book, Think and Grow Rich, and it is extremely important…perhaps even more important than the chapters describing his 13 Principles. This last chapter is the second longest in the book – Hill devotes a great deal of time and space describing FEARS and how they sabotage any attempts you make to change your life and manifest your Dreams. Read this chapter carefully, honestly assess your Self, and work at clearing your fears from your mind first. “Think and Grow Rich” is not a one-time read…it’s value continues to grow each time you read it. Your awareness increases and you perceive concepts which had previously been hidden.
“THE SIX GHOSTS OF FEAR” - PART 2
Honest self-analysis is absolutely essential for all who demand riches, since self analysis will show us weaknesses which we don’t like or want to acknowledge in ourselves. Face the facts, ask definite questions and demand honest answers of yourself. You are after the truth – so get it, no matter how much it embarrasses you - and you will come to know yourself more deeply. It is this knowledge that will enable you to recognize your fears, confront them and release them, since they no longer serve any purpose in your life.
Though the majority of people would say they have no fears, in reality we all are bound, handicapped, and whipped physically and spiritually by some type of fear. So subtle and deeply seated are they that most people live their entire lives burdened by fears but never see them. Here are some symptoms to look for when working on your self-analysis:
Indifference – commonly expressed as lack of ambition, initiative, imagination, enthusiasm, self-control, laziness, and acceptance of whatever life offers.
Indecision – staying “on the fence” …a habit of allowing others to do one’s thinking.
Doubt – expressed through alibis and excuses to cover up, explain or apologize for one’s mistakes or failures; can also be expressed as envy or criticism of those who are successful.
Worry – expressed through fault-finding in others, a tendency to spend more than one’s income, neglect of personal appearance, abuse of alcohol or other substances, nervousness, lack of poise and self-consciousness.
Over-caution – a habit of looking at the negative side in every situation or circumstance; thinking or talking about failure rather than the way to succeed; knowing every way to disaster but never searching for a way to avoid it; waiting for the “right time” to take action on plans or ideas till the waiting becomes permanent habit; remembering only failures or seeing only the hole in the donut or the cup half empty.
Procrastination – the habit of putting things off till later; spending enough time creating alibis or excuses to have actually completed the job (this is closely related to doubt, worry and over-caution); refusing to accept responsibility at any possible time; habitual willingness to compromise rather than fight for what one wants; acceptance of lack instead of demanding abundance, prosperity and happiness; giving in to obstacles (as reason to quit) instead of using them as steps toward advancement; planning in advance for the possibility of failure instead of burning bridges and taking a step forward in Faith; weakness or lack of self-confidence, self control, definite purpose, initiative, enthusiasm, ambition and sound reasoning ability; expecting Lack and Poverty instead of demanding riches and associating with people who expect the same.
“Money” is just the physical representation of our desires. Over the ages man has displayed his riches through food, clothes, jewels, animals and property, servants and many other physical forms, all of which have been used to barter for the other things desired. Currently we barter using the forms of money called paper and coins, which only has the value that has been assigned to them. Accumulating this “money” just enables us to acquire the things we desire.
Hill states the major reason he wrote this book on how to attain money is the fact that millions of people are paralyzed by their Fear of Poverty. Westbrook Pegler describes very well what this fear does to a person:
When a man is down…unable to get any job at all, something happens to his Spirit which can be observed in the droop of his shoulders…a feeling of inferiority among people with regular employment, even though he knows they are definitely not his equals in character, intelligence or ability…
The most valuable riches cannot be acquired with money. Use this final chapter to recognize, search out, confront, and eliminate the Six Basic Fears entrenched in your Minds. It is this effort of Will and Determination which will enable you to acquire the most valuable riches of all – Love, Self-worth, Self-Respect, Joy and Happiness – and perhaps money will come as a Bonus!
In this final article in the series I’ve concentrated on Hill’s information about the Fear of Poverty, mainly because it’s the #1 Fear and because a blog has space constraints. But in his final chapter Hill also discusses in depth the other Five Major Fears – Criticism, Poor Health, Lack or Loss of Love, Old Age and Death – and provides some symptoms to watch for during your self-analysis. He talks about the insidious and subtle states of mind called worry and indecision, which are based on the Six Basic Fears and how to overcome them just by making a decision. Hill discusses the Disaster of Destructive (negative) Thinking - how it spreads to many other people through verbal expression and passing on negative thought impulses to those vulnerable and open to receive them. Then he offers methods to protect yourself from these negative influences. Hill provides a list of self-analysis test questions to get you started and help you see yourself as you really are, so you can begin controlling your mind immediately. He gives the 55 Famous Alibis by Old Man IF - how building alibis to explain failure is a national pastime and fatal to success. At the very end he tells us about the Master Key to unlock the door to “riches.”
So don’t stop here… there is SO MUCH MORE in this chapter to help you manifest your dreams! Read Napoleon Hill’s book, Think & Grow Rich in its entirety. Then go back later and read it again and again. I promise… with each read you will gain new insights about your Money issues and increase your awareness about Manifesting Money!
As always please leave your comments…they may just inspire someone on their road to success!
(The excerpts noted in the articles in this series are not meant to replace or supplant reading Napoleon Hill’s complete book Think & Grow Rich. My intention is to pique your interest and your desire to read Hill’s book by providing an overview of its concepts. In fact, I highly encourage you to read the entire book, re-read it, then read it again. No matter if reading a few marked passages or entire chapters, I always reap some new understanding to apply in my life. And we never know what will stir the ‘AHA’ or mindset shift that begins or furthers our Journey to Success!)
